6. 3D Scanning and printing

This week I worked on designing and 3D printing an object (small, few cm3, limited by printer time) that could not be made subtractively. To do that I designed a “Joystick” in SolidWorks and printed it using the Ultimaker 2+ 3D printer. Also, used the 3D sense scanner to scan an alcohol bottle and obtained its botella.obj file with the full scan. We got a 3D printer with a clogged nozzle, and tried to unclog it using the methods recommended by the supplier (Ultimaker).

Code Example

NO CODE THIS WEEK

Here we see the consequences of the clogged nozzle, the filament got damaged as the transportation mechanism scratched it…

From Youtube

Here we see how I designed and produced my “joystick” using Solidworks, and Cura in the Ultimaker 2+ 3D printer…

Here we see the Ultimaker 2+ printing the “Joystick”

Here we see the results of the 3d printer:

1) The cube Joystick printed alone (for testing purposes) without the stick inside…

2) Now we see (side by side) the cube alone and the final Joystick for comparation purposes…

3) In this picture we see the cube alone and the final Joystick, as well as a twin “Joystick” produced today (02/26/2019) by mistake, due to a lack of communication, as I didn`t noticed when the first one was finished…

All files used to create my “Joystick”, can be found in my repository

3D Scanning:

As indicated, I scanned an Alcohol bottle in the Lab using a Sense™ 3D scanner, it was a tedious and long procedure, and the resulting file: ( botella.obj ) can be seen here:
