Who is Aleza?¶
Hi! I am Aleza. I am very interested in learning the skills needed for engineering and design of products to improve our ability to make an impact through design. My undergraduate experience at Wheaton College MA in Studio Art, in combination with a dual degree in Business and concentration in Psychology, provided the opportunity to learn a variety of design tools, including painting, sculpture, industrial design, graphic design, printmaking, 3-D printing, CAD software, and other mixed media disciplines. While at Wheaton I incorporated many of my design skills into creating and running my very own streetwear clothing label, as well as creating sculptures and paintings that the college and private collectors purchased for their art collections. After graduation, I felt the need to continue to develop new skills to improve my ability to solve problems in design, and I enrolled in the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Architecture Design Discovery Program. This program provided experience with the design process. We were provided weekly design problems, and were expected to solve them using the available technologies. The Harvard Program focused on the process of solving design problems, but not the use of newer technologies needed for state of the art solutions to design problems.
After graduation from Wheaton I chose to live in Boston to take advantage of the stimulating environment and opportunities in design and innovation. One of the things I continued to develop was my painting and clothing company. I was a featured artist at an art show, and one of the attendees was excited about my art and suggested I visit him at the Dassault’s 3DExperience Lab. I could see the opportunities for my professional and individual development at the 3DExperience Lab, and research led me to apply for the 2019 FabAcademy Dassault
I feel as if I bring a unique perspective to training at the FabAcademy. I have developed the ability to solve problems, I have started my own business, learned new technologies available to me at Wheaton, and have begun the process of lifelong learning to be better at improving design to improve function. I am interested in design for the aesthetics of design, which is an important goal for my clothing company, but I am most interested in design to improve function for everyday products and for new products that will become the necessities of the future.
