3. Computer Aided design¶
its been an interesting classes fo far. Now, is the time to get down to the raster vector, 2D, 3D softwares.
2D:¶
-
2D is used to create flat digital images.
-
X and Y horizontal and vertical axis are used in 2D.
-
2D graphics are used for printing and drawing applications.
-
2D graphics are vector based graphics.
3D:¶
-
3D graphics represents 3 dimensional representations of geometric data, such as length, breadth and depth.
-
3D graphics falls into 3 categories:
-
3D modeling – the process of forming computer model of an object.
- Layout and Animation – movement and placing and object in a scene are known as layout and animation.
- 3D rendering – computer calculations that are based on light placement, surface types generate an image.
Raster Graphics:¶
-
Raster graphics are composed of pixels.
-
Raster graphic is an array of multicolor pixels those form an image.
-
Raster graphic blocks images because each pixel increases the size of the image.
-
Raster images are made up of individual pixels of separate colours which, when combined make up an image
-
Scanned photographs are a good example of raster images, as the computer has to break the real photo down into individual pixels of separate colours.
-
If you scale up the scanned image you will gradually see those pixels become more and more apparent, since the number of pixels is set at the moment you scan the image and defined by the image size and DPI (dots per inch) if you are looking to print it afterwards
Vector Graphics:¶
-
Vector graphics are generated with paths.
-
Every path comprises of lines that may be straight or curved.
-
Vector graphics can be scaled without losing the image quality.
-
Vector images are made up of mathematical formulas that express points and curves to create lines and shapes of single colours
-
Vector graphics are excellent for the web, architectural design or anything that requires precision of line like technical drawings that can be easily transferred to a machine for moulds or 3d printing etc.
Bitmaps?¶
Bitmaps are simply another name for raster images. The pixels are called “bits”, so it is basically a map of the bits in a raster image
My Paint¶
Started drawing in my paint in windows.i choose the rectangular shape for the outer part and rounded rectangal shape for the inner screen part and then edited text as brand name ‘FAB-TV’ and inverted its color. Made a simple 2d drawing of a TV display screen, then tried to edit in Paint 3D, made a a bass tube under the TV using 3D capsule shape. Edited FABLAB logo inside the TV screen , used a black color spray and edited the bass tube for fun
FreeCad¶
Installed freecad and started using it while taking help from the tutorial on Youtube. It helped me design a screw. Sounds simple but for a beginner it’s a useful tutorial.
Make a cylinder of 2.75mm as Radius and 25mm as Height and let the angle 360.
On the above cylinder make one more cylinder(01) of 2.75mm radius and 22mm as height. Change the translation of Z axis to 3mm.
Again add one more cylinder(02) but this time the radius would be 1.5mm and height 22mm and change the Z axis translation to 3mm.
From the combo view on the left side of the screen select the cylinder 01 and 02 and click on ‘make a cut of two shapes’
Now select the remaining cylinder and the cut part and again click on ‘make a cut of two shapes’
Tinker Cad¶
Tinker cad is an open source free webbased cad software which helps in electronics, coding and 3d designing,I tried the tutorials from the site making a batman button. It was intresting to use it with the how to do commands but it helped me gain a bit of confidence in doing so. And also i tried making Simple heart ring,
