Applications and Implications: Grand masterpiece
Final project masterpiece
A masterpiece building on to my final project. My final project can transmit data through visible light in line-of-site at a maximum rate of 10 kb/s. The masterpiece must be a device which is up to date with state of the art transmission rates with low aquisition and implementation costs.
What will it do?
The improved Visible Light Telecommunications' device should transmit, receive and route data. It must be:
- easy to mount for a non-engineer
- cost less than $100 in volume
- cost less than $200 for self fabrication
- have a speed of at least 10 Gb/s
Who's done what beforehand?
No one has done it yet. But one libre version is the closest to achieving something of this sort: RONJA. Another version sources some components that are not libre Koruza and has higher data rate.
What will you design?
I will design:
- electronics
- light ray collimator
- mounting infrastructure

What materials and components will be used?
- HDPE
- 2 processors of at least 10+ GFlops
- High speed phototransistor (10 Gb/s)
- High speed different frequency LEDs (3.4 Gb/s)
- PVC tubes
- Aluminum pole
- Servos
- Steel cables

What processes will be used?
- Molding and casting for the case and paraboloid reflector.
- Motor control and electronics' fabrication.
- Cabling and integration with Ethernet, WiFi or LiFi
- Mounting on site.
What questions need to be answered?
- Who has the skills in each area of the project?
- How to interest the buyers to crowd-fund?
- How to handle different distances in transmission from node to node?
- How to ensure the network is community owned, not controlled by governments or corporations?
- Who will collaborate and how will the mounting will be sourced?
How will it be evaluated?
The number of nodes mounted will reflect the grade of success of the project.
