INVENTION,INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & INCOME

TASKS TO DO-develop a plan for dissemination of your final project prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) and put them in your root directory.

This weeks assignment is to develop a plan for dissemination of our final project and si in the lecture Neil talked about the life cycle of an invention, patents, copyrights to protect our ideas or work, and funding and business development.

Invention

An invention is moreover a unique process. It is creation of a new product or improvement of an existing product with new and wider appplication which has undergone overall engineering and product development process.Inventions can be patended therby legally protecting the intellectual properties.

Intellectual Properties

According to ,Intellectual property that includes creations of human intellect and the rights to protect them.Intelletual property rights give the protection to the creator for a certain period of time.It includes, patents, copyright and trademarks, which enable people to earn recognition or financial benefit from what they invent or create.

Patents

A patent is a form of right granted by the government to an inventor, giving the owner the right to exclude others from making, using, selling, offering to sell, and importing an invention for a limited period of time, in exchange for the public disclosure of the invention.[WIKI]

Patents are of two types:
Utility patent for the product and its working and design patent for its design of the product.

Patent doesnt provide us protection in real as it says but only gives acess to court if we find someone infringing your patent.Getting a patent is also a whole lot process where we have to submit a patent document describing our invention and claim document which decides in giving the patent by the authority of each country .Patents are granted nationally and if we want a global patent we have to obtain it for each country and pay for it.Patent has to be paid to keep it active.

Copyrights

Copyrights are rights given for the design or creative works. We can protect the design of a product or the design files itself as a creative work. Copyright is therefore only for the manner in which they are expressed.

Trademark

Trademarks are a sign or any recognizable expression which distinguishes product to a particular trader from similar competitive traders.

Open source licenses

Coming to this term opensource license,my basic doubt was that what is this for?If we are keeping a product or a design opensource why should we liscence it?. This made me read some of the open source licensing schemes or initiatives. Some of them are:
1)Creative commons
2)GPL or GNU general public license
3)MIT

Creative commons

According to A Creative Commons (CC) license is a type of copyright licenses that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that they have created. CC provides an author flexibility (for example, they might choose to allow only non-commercial uses of their own work) and protects the people who use or redistribute an author's work from concerns of copyright infringement as long as they abide by the conditions that are specified in the license by which the author distributes the work.
The different types of CC licences are:

Types of CC licenses

Attribution(BY)-Licensees may copy, distribute, display and perform the work and make derivative works and remixes based on it only if they give the author or licensor the credits (attribution) in the manner specified by these.
Share-alike(SA)-Licensees may distribute derivative works only under a license identical ("not more restrictive") to the license that governs the original work. Without share-alike, derivative works might be sublicensed with compatible but more restrictive license clauses, e.g. CC BY to CC BY-NC.)
Non-commercial(NC) -Licensees may copy, distribute, display, and perform the work and make derivative works and remixes based on it only for non-commercial purposes.
No Derivative Works(ND)-Licensees may copy, distribute, display and perform only verbatim(original) copies of the work, not derivative works and remixes based on it.
We can have a combination of these as our licence. Those combinations are given above in the picture and the liscence deeds for different combinations can be viewed below:

GNU general public license

The GNU General Public License, often shortened to GNU GPL (or simply GPL), is a widely used free software liscence, which guaratees end users the freedom to run, study, share and modify the software. It was created by Richard Stallman inorder to protect the GNU software from being made proprietary. A work under GPL is always GPL and it is a copyleft license, which means that derivative work can only be distributed under the same license terms.

MIT licence

MIT licence is the most popular permissive license as of 2016[wiki]which is defined as "The license comes under the category of permissive licenses, which defined as "lets people do anything they want with your code as long as they provide attribution back to you and don't hold you liable".It has very limited restriction of reusing the codes. It is a free software liscence with minimal requirements.

The common form of MIT License copying here.

INCOME

Regarding the case of Income,I dont have any commercial interests with these.I strictly dont want to do business with something I made here in Fablab. This work of mine is what I have learnt in these coursetime and my personal favourite. My work will be open to all and love to hear feedbacks and there remix work.

Dissemination of my Project work

My project (DigiFAB display) is a led display board made up of led matrix.I am not having any idea to market this product as in market there are a lot of such available which is very easy to assemble and use.It is just out of my curiosity and love towards these displays I am making this and love to see more people do this for there own requirements rather than just be consumers.I love to share my work to these people, want to see what remixes they have made and therefore I choose Creative Commons-Attribute-NonCommercial-ShareAlike for all the works done by me in FAB Academy(CC-BY-SA-NC) .
