In this week, we are having an assignment in groupwise and our assignment is to make something big. Big in the sense that to build a machine, including the end effector, build the passive parts and operate it manually. As this a big project, we are granted two whole weeks to complete the project. Since we are only 9 members we decided to form as a whole group and to work for the project.
Fierst of all, we made a group discussion on what we have to do. Among several options, we decided to go with U-Arm and a bit modifiaction to the existing U-Arm. Modification in the sense that to add Digital Embroidary Sewing Machine and Vertical Plotter to it. We also have named our project as Fab Arm.
Then we prepared an initial rough sketch os the machine that we are going to make and made a vague idea on the components and the processes involved in the project.
So as per the design and the tasks involved in it each and every one of us decided to take a part of it as our area and to integrate with others.
What my task in this assignment was that to assemble the guide rail, to document the group project and to co-ordinate the project.
Cutting and Assembling the parts
We got the design parts from this link. We laser cut the parts.
Then we assembled Fab Arm with screws and other parts by referring the uarm documentation page. Assembling the servos into the side plates was the difficult part of the build since, it is having a lots of parts and fasteners with different sizes.
Testing out robotic arm
We used arduino to test and control the servo motors.
