Licensing format
During this week, I looked at three different kind licenses:
After having read about them, I decided to use the CC License because I consider it more flexible and it allows you to choose under what conditions you want to release your project. More than this, you can also decide to allow or preclude the possibility to use it for commercial purposes.
Dissemination of final project
It could be wonderful if the project I developed during FabAcademy would be commercialized or at least will be useful for someone. Anyway, up to now it is a bit difficult to think about my project as a final prototype. In other words, it will represent a starting point for future developments I would like to do. I'm really keen on collaboration and team works and I hope to do the future improvements I pictured for it. Looking at Creative Commons Licenses I decided to use the CC BY-SA License. I strongly believe in collaboration and sharing ideas. I really love brain storming and finding solutions in redesign phases. The license I chose follows the same principle used by Wikipedia: it means that everyone can play its part having the respect for others work at the same time. I firmly believe people have to learn work in team more than we have done until now. I am happy about the project I did during my FabAcademy experience but I started with the awareness not to create a final prototype. Each respectful project has lacks and this is what has happened to me too. I would really like to improve my project, and working in team can be the more appropriate condition in order to avoid more lacks as possible. So, considering the license I chose: You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
Along these principles, people can collaborate with me to implement the project I've just done and I will give my contribution to them too. I am convinced that this could be the right way to build something solid in order to avoid children deaths in cars. Unfortunately, it still represents a big problem to face with, and I would be really happy if the share-alike behaviour could create a workable and useful project, including a marketable production. Up to now, it's time to stay grounded but Fab Academy experience gave me the opportunity to know a various world full of different skills that worked together and I am strongly convinced it can be the key to success, to grow personally and professionally.
Future improvements
As I already said, the project needs some changes and I thought about some of them. I can say for sure that:
Considering the things I mentioned, if the project would work properly without any kind of lacks, I can say it would can be considered a final prototype, marketable product and according to the reasons and conditions that will arise, the license conditions might be changed in a more restrictive one. As the work will be finished, ready to be used by people and it will be identified as a manufacturer of type-approved equipment, I should change the CC License with the CC BY-NC-ND one. The latter condition means each kind of collaboration is ended up and there will be any reason to work on the main functionalities of a functionable and useful product. It would be great!
