make something big

1.Learning basics of CNC and Setting.

learning

First I learned the basics of CNC via pdf file which was given by my instructor.
And I read and read again before starting.
I was having a hard time for understanding the conception of 'stepover'.
So I googled it.
And I got one image which helped me understand.

learning

This is the image.
As far as I understand, it is related to end-mill moving which lead to the space.
And stepover is related to this space.
So the smaller stepover, the less space. And vice versa.

learning

We should check how feedrate and rpm is proper.

What is the feedrate and rpm?

learning
Feedrate:How much speed of moving end-mill.
RPM:How much speed of spining end-mill.
Above image will help you understand.

So Seounghee and I tried and we found proper value.
rpm=13000, feed rate=100.
We can find the higher feed rate, the more fever.
But if it's too low, it would be likely to break end-mill or low quality cutting.

learning learning

I set the value of rpm and feed rate.
And I made tabs and set ramps.

learning
After setting, I could caculate how it would be.
And then I got this image.
I could see tabs and shilloute.

2.Designing and making.

1)desk

learninglearninglearning

First I was thinking of making 'folding table'.
So I searched and got some references.
But folding is too complicated for me.
So I changed my mind to make 'loose type desk' from which I can take the upper part and legs.
I thought it would be more easier for me and more useful than just table.
And I got 'cuphole' inspiration from the right picture.

learning

I was also inspired by this table legs.(I don't know who made this, but I found by chance.)
It could support the upper part even if it's not fit perfectly.
So I can make hole which is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa little bit more wider than legs.

learning

This is my table design.
Two cupholes, upper parts and four table legs.

learninglearning

I thought offset function is useful for mine.
Because off-set doesn't make perfectly fit-hole, quite bigger than legs.
So I tried off-set test.
I made 3 types of off-set.(0.1,0.3 and 0.5).

learninglearning

I tried and found 0.3-0.5 is too fit.
I didn't try 0.1 because I didn't have to....(more fitter)

2)bookshelf

I just changed my mind to make 'bookshelf.'.
Because table is too simple.... I just wanna folding table so I would try folding table later.
I decided to make bookshelf.

learninglearninglearning

These are such a beautiful, isn't it?
I was facinated by these.
So I wanted to make this kind of design bookshelf.

learning

This is my bookshelf design.

learning

I just followed the same step and cut and got my parts.
And I started to assemble my parts.
And I found I made a mistake....
Waiting for some parts, I sanded some of my parts too much.
And this made my parts more wider than I expected.
So it didn't fit well....

learning learning

I taped the parts which were assembled in that missing parts.
So it worked. I made it....

learning

Hammering to assemble, I broke some connected part....
It looked ugly....
But I couldn't do anything. I just prayed that I wouldn't do that again for the next time.

learning learning learning

Finally I made it!!!!!!!!
I spent so much time for hammering....
It was my first time for CNC.
So it's not perfect.

learning learning learning learning

Some parts are not perfectly fitted.
And some part are broken.
But I think it's quite good though. Because it's the first time to make something by myself from start to finish.
I'm so much proud of myself.
That's all.... This week is really interesting to me.
