Computer-aided Design(CAD) is the use of computer systems(or workstations) to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design.
CAD softwares are used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations.
As the assignment of this week is to evaluate and choose CAD software, I worked with SolidWorks.
I designed a table as am a carpter I like to make furnitures. And at the same time I think ahead that if I design the table it will help me to make accomplish the assignment of week 7.
It was easy to design this table in solidworks since I am already familiar with it, before I have done some project in it.
I also tried to use freecad from a colleague's computer and he tought how to use it.
To try freecad I designed a napkin holder, and it was fun.
I liked freecad too though it was a bit difficult to learn than solidWorks.
On 2D software I choosed to work with Corel Draw, and I was familiar with it since I use it when working with laser cuter. So to create some graphics in corel draw was also easy and straight forward.
I designed something to cut with the laser cutter.
I did try also Inkscape to see how it works because its my first time to work with it. And maybe I may use it in the future when I am design something to engrave with the laser cutter.
