Week fifteen: Mechanical Design
For this week we choosed to make a sand drawing machine, we took the idea from a video we saw on the internet. We needed 2 things, a spinning disk covered with sand, and a two axis pivot that could carve in the sand.
On the left we have the main idea for the project, on the right there is the sketch of the assambled machine.
My job was to design the structure and moving parts, I designed the spur gears, motor mounts, the spinning disk and assembly all.
The spur gear was the hardest part so I'm going to focus only on that design process.
Get ready to learn how to design spur gears in eight easy steps.
My partner Yvonne Lomas designed the base of the machine and also helped by collecting all the information from the other members to organize it and make the group web page and the poster for the project. This is her page documentation: http://fab.academany.org/2018/labs/fablabpuebla/students/yvonne-lomasmontaudon/15.html#fifteen
I saved all the parts as DXF and arranged them into one cut
I can see this project used as a Phonograph, It could potentially be used as a Vynil recorder and player.
It also could be used as a rotary laser cutter/engraver, we all know that laser cutters are pretty accurate, but if the work it has to do is round, maybe this would do it fasster/more accurate.
