Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income
The goal for this assignment is to understand how to protect your idea or invetion using for future purposes and continuation of your project. This helps in ensuring that the project is individual or open sources depending on your preferences hence anyone acquiring it can or can not be able to use it in their own way without the necessary permissions.
I started by asking myself how to go about the whole process.
License
A license or licence is an official permission or permit to do, use, or own something (as well as the document of that permission or permit.A license may be granted by a party to another party as an element of an agreement between those parties
Different types of licenses
Apache License 2.0
A permissive license whose main conditions require preservation of copyright and license notices. Contributors provide an express grant of patent rights. Licensed works, modifications, and larger works may be distributed under different terms and without source code.
GNU General Public License V3
ermissions of this strongest copyleft license are conditioned on making available complete source code of licensed works and modifications, which include larger works using a licensed work, under the same license. Copyright and license notices must be preserved. Contributors provide an express grant of patent rights. When a modified version is used to provide a service over a network, the complete source code of the modified version must be made available.
MIT License
I used the 70 by 30 mm measurement dimension for the PCB. Rearranged the compnents on those dimentions to fit the exact measurements. I had a bit of challenge with arranging the components and their connections soo i went back and forth between the schematic board and the screen board.
Creative Commons
The Creative Commons copyright licenses and tools forge a balance inside the traditional “all rights reserved” setting that copyright law creates. The tools give everyone from individual creators to large companies and institutions a simple, standardized way to grant copyright permissions to their creative work. The combination of tools and users is a vast and growing digital commons, a pool of content that can be copied, distributed, edited, remixed, and built upon, all within the boundaries of copyright law.
• Attribution
This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licenses offered. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials.
• Attribution-ShareAlike
This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. This license is often compared to “copyleft” free and open source software licenses. All new works based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also allow commercial use. This is the license used by Wikipedia, and is recommended for materials that would benefit from incorporating content from Wikipedia and similarly licensed projects.
• Attribution-NoDerivs
This license allows for redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, as long as it is passed along unchanged and in whole, with credit to you.
• Attribution-NonCommercial
This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, and although their new works must also acknowledge you and be non-commercial, they don’t have to license their derivative works on the same terms.
• Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike
This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms.
• Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs
This license is the most restrictive of our six main licenses, only allowing others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit you, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially.
What license that I chose.
Creative Commons
Creative commons has diffrent licenses with diffrent requirements, I decided to go with the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike which was moe suitable for the project. I just opened their site as shown to apply for a license. Then selected the option sthat I wanted as shown.
