Little forethought as to what the lesson should entail. Reading through lists of CAD providers. ´Go try them all´ is rather casual.Suggestions

Software:
Abobe Illustrator
Google SketchUp
AutoDeskFusion360
Started by making a pencil on paper sketch of what I would need to build. Putting in some dimensions etc.
Viewed and practised many online tutorials for AdobeIllustrator, but still found trying to do a 2D sketch with this quite challenging. Could follow tutorial, but unable to apply concepts to my own model.
Decided to look at Fusion360 and started doing some 2D tutorials and skills building with this programme. Very interesting and a great resource. Looking at constraints, position and dimensions within the created shapes and images. Problems getting Fusion to open sometimes. Made a bunch of models via online tutorials.

Tried then to modelling sketch in SketchUp
Went back to Fusion360 as this seemed a more versatile tool, although sketchup warehouse does have a lot of finished elements. The McCaster-Carr components in Fusion will no doubt be useful for future projects.
Still trying to learn the skills with fusion, not sure how to get different aspects of the same sketch combined.
