Week19: Applications and implications

Assignment:
Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered, answering:
Your project should incorporate 2D and 3D design, additive and subtractive fabrication processes, electronics design and production, microcontroller interfacing and programming, system integration and packaging. Where possible, you should make rather than buy the parts of your project. Projects can be separate or joint, but need to show individual mastery of the skills, and be independently operable.

Design strategy

What will it do?

The Gamma Cool Box is a platform that controls the temperature of 4 independent thermal plates from 5 to 80°C with a +/- 1° absolute accuracy.
With a Bill of material bellow 300€ and fablab friendly design, it is ideal for demanding scientific instrumention, with a low budget.

Who's done what beforehand?

I am making: I am buying:

Detailed BOM of the Gamma Cool Box in xlsx or in pdf.
At this stage the Gamma Cool Box cost 236€. About 50% of the cost is for raw materials only (including ICs):

The BOM could quickly be reduced to 150€ by: Utimatelly I would say that it could be reduced to 50€ (especially if the size can be divided by 2 or 3).
FYI: The BOM of Gamma v6 is around 200€. Pre-product version could be between 50 and 80€ depending on LEDs wavelengths.
NB: The BOM do not include the human time, machine time and tooling, nor the logisctic costs (shipping, rent, electricity...)
