2014 - Virginia For making bubble wands. Half "traditional" shape. Learn to search for and use community shapes! Go to tinkercad If you've never used it before make an account Do the tutorials up to the glasses one. Pay attention to moving your view and moving objects. Inkscape: draw a shape or silhouette a very ROUND shape. Animal or blob! Make your own shape: Re-size to a good wand size: lock aspect ratio, make it 1.5 inches wide (or tall, if that's the wider dimension). Magic trick, changes the thickness to a good bubble wand thickness: Make the Fill=none, make the stroke solid and 0.1 inches. Select your shape and use menu item "Path"->"Stroke to Path" Make sure it is the ONLY thing in your file (tinkercad will try to import all paths in the file, doesn't matter if it's on the "page" or not) Go to tinkercad: Open your normal bubble wand shape (if you want a "normal" want, otherwise you can draw your own stick) Import -> File -> Browse (select your animal/blob inkscape file) Use import options: Scale: 25% height: 2 mm Move it so that it *overlaps* the edge of the stick. It's better for the stick to be sticking all the way through than for it not to be touching the stick. You can move it around, rotate (IN plane! Not out of plane--use scale if needed!) GROUP the stick with your shape. (see tutorial: Select both, click on mountain icon at top right of screen) NOTES on Development: Tinkercad seems to import things the wrong size. weird. Maybe an in->mm problem? The scaling is a workaround. 3.5mm high wands take ~27 minutes (80 speed, 40 first layer). 2mm high wands take ~15 minutes Fill makes little difference in time. Went with 10%, but 20% also OK. The HPS works great. half the time one of the two trial wands delaminates, but it still works anyway. Having two bubble blower sides helps, otherwise the stick part almost always unsticks.
