Week XVII

Lesson May 27th 2015

Invention, intellectual property, and income

Assignment

Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project

Invention

My project is designed to be easily replicated in any Fablab, but also in any laboratory, private and public. Completely Open Source, when i will finish the Fabacademy i will make public all the resources for making the Open Rotomolder. Intellectual Property I will try to record a license Open Source Hardware MIT, or Creative Commons, not for protect my project but to safeguard me that someone by following my steps might get injured. I choose this type of licenses because everyone can try to expand my project, perhaps adding a motor, or planning a movement different from the present.

Income

Motivation

The motivation to disseminate this project and continue this development after Fab Academy is mostly social and educational. With the popularity of DIY 3D printing, you now have the ability to create one 3D object in a relatively short amount of time, but printing multiple objects is still a time consuming process. I was looking for a way to increase the speed of reproducing 3D printed parts, so i stumbled upon rotational molding and spin casting. With this technique you can reproduce many identical parts from a successful 3D print. Social because it will be open source and there will be a community of people contributing and improving it. Educational because it will help students to understand the concepts behind a 3d molder .

Company

I don't need to create a company, because I already have one, my idea is not to market the finished product, but it is to induce many Fablab to use this machine for rplicare parties in 3d without waste of time and material. I thought of those who have difficulty in finding the material and for those with little time to buy it, and most likely will produce Kit with everything you need at a cost of 150 € plus tax and shipping costs.

Sources

Whenever I will be asked to buy the kit material from my suppliers, pocihè is all material that reperisco localemnte near my Fablab.
