ASSIGNMENT
plan and document a final project that integrates the range of units covered:
what will it do?
who's done what beforehand?
what materials and components will be required?
where will they come from?
how much will it cost?
what parts and systems will be made?
what processes will be used?
what tasks need to be completed?
what questions need to be answered?
what is the schedule?
how will it be evaluated?
projects can be separate or joint, but need to show individual mastery of all of the skills
where possible, you should make rather than buy the parts of your project

WHAT I DID
I answered to the above questions:

What will it do?
Look, listen and feel: multi-sensory toys to grow and have fun.
Experts agree that children learn and develop their minds during their early years, especially when they are encouraged to play with toys that attract their senses of sight, sound and touch.

What does that mean? Well, for starters, it means that playing with toys offers a learning experience, even if your child doesn't realize it. It also means that choosing multi-sensory toys--the kinds of games and activities that involve the ears, eyes and fingertips--helps build up your child's brain when he or she is very young, and even as he grows up.
So I would like to develop a toy that can stimulate different senses.
The toy should:

  • be decomposable
  • intercact through light
  • interact through sound

Who's done what beforehand?
I didn’t find any wooden toys that also implement electronic interactions and assemble option.

What materials and components will be required?
Animals Body:

  • wood; for one animal you will need a panel at least 210x350mm, thickness 17mm.
  • material for finishing.
  • magnets

Electronic, most important components:

  • ATtiny48
  • Vibration sensor
  • Our rgb Leds
  • 8Ohm Speaker
  • and then: resistors, capacitors, Nchannel Mosfet, connectors.

Where will they come from?
I found the wood at a big wood store and I will use woods from different continents. About the electronics most of the device are available at FabLab and I got the rest from online shopping.
how much will it cost?
what parts and systems will be made?
I’m going to make a central body that can fits with all the animals and heads/legs for each animal I want to do. They will wood made. To connect the extremities to the body I will use magnets. Changing the configuration of the animals I will change the reaction of the whole animal.  Inside the central body I will place the control board, the led and the sound. Inside the others part of the animals there are only the components (resistor) I will need to identify the kind of animal you are going to assemble. So the parts are:

  • wooden body
  • control board
  • copper trace
  • led board
  • speaker

How much will it cost?
The most expensive part is the wood..using wasted part and selected wood I spent 30euro. Between the elctronic components the less chipper is the vibration sensor, 6euro, I think that with 10euro you can buy all the devices. The magnets are quite expensive, expecially if you don't buy big amount, I spent about 20euro. One adhesive copper roll is quite expensive, and I used really small pieces, it's not easy to evaluate the reall cost.

What parts and systems will be made?

  • led board
  • speaker

What processes will be used?
For the animals parts:

  • shopbot 2d milling
  • sanding and finishing

For the electronics boards and connections:

  • Roland Modela mdx-20 milling
  • Vinyl cutter

For the environment:

  • Epilog laser cutter

What tasks need to be completed?

  • optimize animal design
  • optimize electronic pcb layout
  • design the copper traces
  • write the code
  • realise it

What questions need to be answered?
Will I make it?

What is the schedule?
I spent the last two weeks doing some test for the mechanical functionality of my final project. I have to finish my test and I will be ready to make it.

How will it be evaluated?
I hope, well.
