This week for the 3D printing project I designed a simple key chain for my cousin who will turn 16 in May. The first design was with Inventor, after converting to an stl file and printing the oval shape printed like a triangle with some extra lines, so I moved to SolidWorks and drew it again, the design and exporting went much smoother. The SolidWorks stl file printed as drawn.
For the 3D scan I scanned a screwdriver and used 123d Catch to make the image. The process seemed very straight forward and worked well. I wish I had used a more vertical object rather than a horizontal one. I attempted to use meshlab to modify the mesh of the object but was unable to do so.
