To comply with the requirement for an incorporated sensor I have decided to add a moisture sensor to the floor of the shaker, this will detect if there has been any spillage and stop the process whilst lighting an led as a warning.

 Alternatively it could display an alert on the LCD screen.

Other than the incorporation of a sensor on the surface the only other physical change will be an additional LED as a warning light.
